Low Cost Family Activites

Ever wanted to spend a fruitful family day with your loves ones and end up not knowing where to go to?

You may babble places like Zoo, Bird Park, Sentosa, blah blah blah... But for some people, they may not be able to afford spending that much. However, having a good time with your family doesn't mean you have to spend tens of thousands, you simply just have to have something fun that you can do TOGETHER.

So for this post, I'll be giving you guys some ideas about spending your family day the LOW COST way.

1) Going to the Beach / Swimming Pool

Regardless of what age your kids are, they would love building sandcastles and playing with water! Besides that you also can cycle, rollerblade, play some volleyball or maybe getting that tan that you've been thinking for the longest time! You can opt for a full day spent at the beach or just few hrs at the pool.

For little babies, there are also swimming lessons available around. Parent participate together to guide the baby how to swim, how sweet is that?

Do remember to make some sandwiches and salads though, for example, Sentosa beaches, food isn't exactly cheap.

2) Peek-a-boo Playground

Its cheap and fun and your child can have a chance to interact with other kids too! For pics, check out the website here.

Its located at Kallang Leisure Park the shopping center. And entry fee is only $8 for kids 6 to 23 months, and $12 for 2 years and above. Babies below 6 months get to enter free!! They don't charge for parents by the way.

Every parent should know that bringing a child to shopping is hell, because you won't really get to really SHOP! So this place do offer another advantage, that is, you may leave your child there while the staffs help you keep a lookout for them, while you do your shopping, or catch a movie, or maybe just take a breather!

There are other places around that offers playgrounds like this, do google about it and probably you can find one near your place!

3) Science Center

Hopefully you all have seen our last trip to the Science Center, and no, it isn't boring! Although Science wasn't one of my favourite subjects, but the exhibits there are interesting still. Never mind even if you child is young, don't understand all the science thing, which maybe even us didn't know. They have wet playground for them too!

And there are also some other things that kids can play with, like the little house that Tyler played with.

And most importantly, its cheap!! Cost $9 for and adult and $5 for kids aged 3-16 years old.

4) Library

Grab some books, get a corner and read stories to your kids. Reading ups their creativity and imagination and plus, they get to know more words too! Even if your child is like Tyler's age, when he still don't really understand the story, show him pictures, discuss with him, get him to show you what's on the picture. Start the good habit of reading early!

And need I mention its cost free?

5) Shopping

Toy R Us, kids most favourite place.

Tyler can spend like half the day playing with 2 items there, and imagine they have so much more things! And no, pls don't end up buying the toys home, because they will get bored of it real fast. Probably they may cry, throw tantrum, but they need to understand that not every thing they want, then they can have it.

So save your money!!

6) Neighbourhood

Feeling bored cooped up at home with your child? Why not head downstairs, take a walk in the neighbourhood. Even better if there is any park or playground in your area, then kiddo could have more fun! Great exercise for them to burn off the excess energy too, and meanwhile you could name the things for him, like 'tree', 'cat', 'car', and so on. Tyler tends to learn faster when he sees the actual thing..

7) Stay home

Staying home doesn't have to be boring, these are some things that you could do.

Sing songs, dance with your little one! Never mind if you can't sing well, play a cd, be it rock, slow music or nursery rhymes, your kid will enjoy all the same!

Get the tub, fill it with water, get a few cups, get bubbles, start playing! Tyler can just scoop water and play splashing with me for 15 mins and he won't get bored one lor.. Be careful that the bubbles doesn't get into their mouth when you blow them, may also teach them how to blow the bubbles out, its super cute to see them trying to learn how to blow!

For some quiet time, you can have your child do some painting or colouring. Even if they are only making a mess! Remember to put some newspaper underneath so that he won't colour your floor! You can do some drawing on your own, simple and yet things that he might know. Guide him along as he colours, and simply let him scribble all along! Sometimes I even paint Tyler's hand and get him to print his handprint on, haha..

Read some storybooks to your child, it helps them to learn more words, in return they will speak much faster! Try to do it with a lot of expressions and different pitches of tone so that they will be interested!!

Hope I've been of help giving you guys some ideas, been busy cause I'm changing Tyler's schedule. He used to sleep at 10pm, then it started to get later and later, nowadays almost 12am then sleep! I read a book that day and they say that if you let your child sleep late, they will start to fight sleep and it will be up to a point where it gets later and later. So a good way to counter that is to getting him to sleep early. Tried out yesterday he slept at 8.30pm, and woke up at 7am this morning. Hope that tonight he'll sleep early too!

Focusing more time on Tyler now, cause I'm kinda thinking to teach him myself at home, not bringing him to playgroup. Probably will bring him to meet other kids more ba, so he can interact and play with them. Any mummies who want to join Tyler's 'private' playgroup, do tell me alright? Haha..
