Random Thoughts..

Just a random post of mine, cause I was reading Reader's Digest and came across this article on breastfeeding. How we were uninformed about the difficulties involved to succeed in breastfeeding.

They mention that out of 5 mothers, only 1 out of 5 mothers are still breastfeeding after 6 months.

And only 35% of babies are still breastfed from week 1, 21% at 6 weeks, and at 5 months only 3%.

That is so little right??

Despite the fact that most of us knows how good is breastmilk for babies.

They were saying that we always hear nurses, doctors or experts telling us how good is breastmilk, but we were never told about the difficulties in succeeding, unless we really read up more about it. Some people actually thought that they just have to wait and within 3-5 days, milk will come gushing in.

Which isn't true because without demand, why would there be any supply??

I know lots of mothers failed because they didn't have sufficient milk, or rather, they didn't know how to increase their supply. Some failed because of people around them telling them, "You don't have enough milk, just give the formula to baby, its good too." Which of course isn't true.

All the knowledge of formula is good comes from media, of the company who is selling the formula.

I just want to say that to succeed in breastfeeding isn't easy, but to give your child the best, you have to sacrifice some things too. Like not having enough rest, cause breastfed babies may feed every 2hr or even every hr. Like having to pump every 2 hr when your milk haven't come in yet. Its tiring, yes, but 1 month of breastfeeding your child is equivalent to giving them protection for 7 years.

Think about it, it would be so much better for you and baby if he falls sick less often right??

Right now, I don't think mothers who wants to breastfeed is getting enough help around. Even though there is breastfeeding classes, lactation consultants its still not enough. Especially when we have to go back to work, that makes breastfeeding even harder.

Unless of course we have an understanding boss who is ok with us going off to pump every 3-4 hrs..

Probably if our government come up with a new scheme whereby if you breastfed your child exclusively for 6 months, you get $2k, then I think every mummy will be super pro breastfeed.

One last advice for mummies, always remember that whether or not you have any milk, is depends on demand and supply. 'Storing' your milk for 3-4 hours, you are not going to have more milk, instead, demand cuts down so does the supply. The breast is very simple, when its empty it makes milk. Don't worry too, even if your child feeds every hr, because the more demand he has the more supply you have.

Just think of yourself as a milk making machine, haha...

If there comes a time when you feel like giving up, talk to your doctor, get more advice from him as he's the best person to tell you more about breastfeeding. Don't listen to other people when they say you don't have enough milk, or formula is better. Because they weren't able to succeed in breastfeeding so they think that you can't too. Ask mothers who are breastfeeding and they will probably tell you that just perservere on, its nothing, just stay positive.

Imagine 1 can of milk powder for 0-6 months cost around $50, and if we calculate the child needs 3 tins a month for 6 months, you'll be saving yourself $900!! That's the min amount.. And not including the amount you'll save from bringing your baby to the doctor when he's sick...

Alright, that's my own opinion, but I'm also not those kind of mothers who, you don't breastfeed your baby you are so mean, I just find it really a pity because of the reasons why mothers gave up.

Signing off now~

Casual update of me

Tyler's birthday is in 2 weeks time!!

Been so busy with preparations, now left only a bit more to complete. Have to finish up Tyler's scrapbook, then do the birthday banner, think of the decorations... Hope that everything will goes well that day! Gordan won't be working for that few days at the chalet, but on his actual birthday, which is the 18th, he won't be free. Thought of bringing Tyler to the zoo, well, guess have to see who else is free le ba...

Some pics, that day when we were heading out...

Gordan

Camwhore a little while waiting for food to come..

Our lunch - Nasi Briyani

Further camwhoring before we leave...

Gordan won't be free to accompany us lately, cause of his work. So I'll be stuck mostly at home liao, since have to save money also.. After Tyler's birthday I'm going to look for job already, which I'm really frustrated about, because I really want to take care of Tyler myself. Any one got any lobangs to intro that I can earn from home???

One main thing that worries me is Tyler getting spoiled by his grandparents. Because the last 2 weeks, because of problem with Gordan, most of the time I'll leave Tyler to Gordan's mom to take care. And lately I feel that he's been throwing tantrums a lot for no reason. And getting stubborn also. And also, he's become closer to Gordan's mom than me. Which makes me sad naturally, although I know that it isn't a bad thing.

So I've since got back to taking care of him myself. And thankfully, he's temper has been better. Only that day when we went out with Gordan's mom and sis, during dinner time, he throw tantrum halfway through porridge. Gordan's mom wanted to carry him, but I don't want cause I don't want to spoil him, so he just sat there and cry for a while, then saw some things that interest him then stop liao..

An advise to all mummies though, try not to spoil them starting from they are young, cause it'll be much more difficult to discipline them when they grows up. Not spoiling them doesn't mean don't carry them, just let them cry or what. You have to know when is he really needing something and when is it just for nothing. Like Tyler, when he throw tantrums, his 'cries' don't have any tears at all one. I still carry him a lot, pacify him sometimes also, but not when its unreasonable. Sometimes they may fuss because teething, they're tired, or they're hungry, or they're cold or hot. When that happens, tend to them immediately, coaxing them is ok. But if its none of that, then let them learn that, crying is not the way to get attention.

Now I have a lot of photoshoots pending now, hopefully they'll faster confirm then more money! Thinking of setting up a online shop selling baby stuff, currently discussing the plans and looking for suppliers with my partner. Hopefully everything goes well!

I feel like going to get a driving license. But now, with all the financial stuff on hand, I can't do that. Have to wait till everything stable down first then I can think of that. Unless anyone wants to sponser me lah.. haha... Actually lots of things that I want to achieve. Because of the problems lately, it had me thinking a lot. I would want to enrol myself in courses and learn some skills, but currently no money. Want to complete my tattoo too, but thats just an extra for me lah... Hoping that I could save more money, then get the necessary insurance and savings plan for Tyler, do all the things I want, and also save for a house for us.

Now I'm just taking one step at a time, taking each day as it goes. My piority will always be Tyler, so if he is happy and growing up well, I'm happy too despite how much I have to do.

Mummy will always love you.....

Tyler and me..

After lunch, its time to change Tyler's diaper so we went to the Baby Room. Its so spacious!!

After which, we went to walk around. And actually stopped at this shop looking at prams. There's this one pram that I like which cost almost $400. And another one that the lady recommend which she says is similar in everything, which cost $300. But then, the one that she recommend, only have orange and green, which I totally find it looks ugly. So in the end, decided I'll go the Baby Hypermart look at more prams then buy.

While we were walking around in Giant, Tyler was eating his biscuits, then he accidently drop it and was so mad that he bit his own hand!!! So he was crying away, and even Gordan's mom couldn't comfort him, so I carry him around. Cause usually he'll stop once I carry him, hehe, power of mummy huh??

Let him try on this toy car, see how much he loves it?
